Why Include Smart Tutor in Your After School Program? |
|
Easy Set-up & Implementation |
Implementing our reading and math software in your learning center is very easy. Since the program is online, there is nothing to download or install. Your students log on to our website with a username and password and begin receiving instruction that is customized for them automatically based on their learning profile. All you need to do is give us the information to set up your school and then monitor your student progress. |

Prescriptive Individualized Instruction |
| Smart Tutor’s individualized instruction program in reading and math is set up automatically for each student, which makes it a powerful and convenient way to provide your students with the targeted help they need. This is especially helpful when you may not always have learning professionals on hand. |

|
Engaging Learning Environment |
Students love computer time and Smart Tutor allows you to help them practice important reading and math skills in an engaging learning environment. Smart Tutor’s lessons include interactive, animated tutorials and game-like activities that bring concepts to life. |

Works With Your Program Schedule |
|
Students can work on the system for 15 minutes, 30 minutes or more – it’s up to you. Since Smart Tutor “bookmarks” the last completed lesson, students are always returned to an activity if they need to stop. Also, students don’t “miss” instruction if they are away because they automatically pick up where they left off when they return. |

“I was looking to find a program that would support the work being conducted in the schools and one that would link the regular school day with our before and after school programs. Learning Today follows the Sunshine State Standards and was a perfect fit. I really wanted a program that was strong in both reading and mathematics and a program that would be appealing to the students.”

Factors to Consider when Implementing Smart Tutor in Your Extended Day Program |
|
Instructional Time |
Like many of the learning centers that use Smart Tutor, if your program includes numerous other activities such as arts and sports, try to allocate chunks of computer time. This will ensure that students are able to complete an adequate amount of lessons during the course of your program. |
|
Installation & Implementation |
The Smart Tutor program does not need to be downloaded or installed since it is completely web-based. However, to ensure a smooth implementation, check to make sure that both staffing and equipment needs are met. Decide how many team members or volunteers you will need to monitor students when they are using the computers. Many clubs find that one adult to 15 students is adequate. You will also want to account for hardware and software requirements such as the number of computers, their location, headsets and internet access. |
|
Training – On-site or Online |
Most staff personnel find the Smart Tutor program easy and intuitive to use. However, some educational programs (especially those not hosted at schools) recruit volunteers that may need additional training and professional development. Training can be conducted on site or online to suit your convenience. |

Smart Tutor’s assessment and progress reports include information on skills mastered, number of lessons completed and time on task, allowing you to easily provide parents with a quick weekly report on their child’s progress. The administrator-level reports can also be especially convenient in terms of meeting funding agencies and other stakeholder requirements for showing the progress achieved during the course of the program. |
